A completely faithful port, right down to the character details, of the famous arcade shooting-game masterpiece, R-TYPE. Destroy the POW armour and six different units will appear that you can use to power-up your R-9. Equip Bits and obtain Laser Units to make the Force appear and to power it up. The Force can then be integrated into or separated from your R-9. Make the most of the Reflecting Laser Beams, and the Air-to-surface, and Anti-aircraft Lasers.
Keep punching the fire button to send blasts from the Beam Cannon. Press and hold the fire button to charge the Beam Gauge and release it to fire a devastating Wave Cannon blast! The longer you hold it, the stronger the blast! The ultimate highlights are the boss characters that await you at the end of each stage, and a stage that pits you against a giant warship.

This game has no 5V pinout on the edge connector, nor does it have the test and tilt pinouts of a true JAMMA connector.
Also, nowhere in the manual is the word JAMMA mentioned. Legacy. R-Type. Manuals.

Once you've made it past the mining obstacles, you finally enter into the Bydo Empire Recycling Factory where you can put an end to the Bydo war machine. Finally, blast your way into the Bydo Lair and come face to face with the maniacal Bydo Emperor himself. It's not a pretty sight, but you must destroy him to save the earth.
Blow out the game at the Pro level for the 'real' ending! Watch out for the pink lasers that come from the right. Also beware of shots from behind!
Use your bit units to get rid of the guns below and watch out for the lasers from the right. Boss four Fly inside the ship and Mast the main reactor core. You must destroy all three sections with your Super Plasma Blast. Level five The first section you come to will move towards the left.
Take either the upper or lower passage to get through. Stay in between the two ledges until the wall moves back into place then fly through the upper or lower passage. Use the bit unit to kill off the enemies that attack from above. Take the lowest path possible and you will not be crushed.
Stay at the top of this section until the walls are in place. Any other path leads to death. Destroy the last engine and the ship will open up.
Go inside to destroy the core. Boss five This Boss will scroll to the right at highs speeds. Watch out for the walls end blast him in the eye for best results.
Level six Launch the Force Droid and keep it in front of your ship. It will take out nearly every enemy and destroy the bases. If you have the Bit units when you get to this point, all you have to do is stay still and the falling objects will be destroyed as you watch for stray shots. You can also stay still in this section and the falling objects will be destroyed by your Bit units. Attach the Force Droid to the rear of your ship before going you are clear. When you are clear, attach it to the front again and continue the battle.
This mini-Boss appears at the top of the screen and shoots a strong laser! The only way to avoid it is to go to the bottom and then fly up through the rings after the main beam disappears. Boss six This Boss is extremely similar to the 4th Boss in the. To damage it you must shoot it in the red eyes. When the pieces separate, try to use a Super Plasma Blast.
Watch out for the lasers, your Force will not absorb them. Level seven If you stay in the lower left hand corner of the screen you will be safe from any harm. Don't shoot at the giant death snakes or you might be crushed. After the safe spot disappears, the screen will fill with mines and giant creatures. Try to destroy all of the creatures that come from the right. Be careful as many of the enemies will come from behind. Keep fighting, you're almost there!
Boss seven You can release the captured R-9's with a Super Plasma Blast. Launch the Force into the Boss when he opens up and hide in the lower left hand corner of the area to finish off the last reminiscence of the Bydo evil! THIS BATTLE IS NOT AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD! That's right, you are about to go against the nastiest, meanest, ugliest group of alien warmongers in the galaxy.
Somehow these slimy mutants known as the Bydo have constructed one of the most destructive star fleets in existence, and they're heading straight for the Earth. This time they could care less about the resources here as they are determined to put an end to the human race. The Earth Defense League has but one hope - a special prototype ship dubbed the R-9. You have been selected to pilot the R-9 and blast through the Bydo empire and rescue Earth from the oncoming menace.
National Video Game Team is here to guide you through this incredible firefight and come out playing like a pro. Irem's bringing the Bydo Empire back for another invasion. Six hot side-view levels (the only way to play), include snazzy Mode 7 effects for some enemy vessels and cool scaling for the bosses. As usual, the Bydo forces will have menacing machines and freaky biological messes. New tricks include the weirdo Eyeball Shots and the tricky Urchin Ship on rails.
Vets will recognize old friends and foes, such as the Spinning Ring and the Morph creatures. Your R-Type fighter will be cut from the classic mold. In addition to rapid-fire, you'll still be able to hold down a fire button to build up an awesome plasma blast.
However, this time you'll be able to choose from three types of Force Pods, which you'll select at the get go. The Pods blast various types of laser beams as you gather power-ups for them. Naturally, you'll be able to connect and disconnect Pods, attach them to the rear or front of your fighter, or blast them forward into the enemy. Super R-Type should be a force to be reckoned with. Once again the famous R-9 is being called out of retirement to turn the tide of battle against the Bydo Empire. The R-9, in case you're unfamiliar with it, is Irem's heavily armed space fighter in the. It's saved the day in two arcade hits, the Sega Master System, the Turbo-Grafx-16 (PC Engine in Japan), the Game Boy, and now the Super NES.
For all those platforms, the game's been hailed for its quality. Super R-Type is no exception.
If you get off on excellent, mind- blowing graphics, this 8 meg shooter is a must play. Mayhem Made Easy The story is simple.
You're in control of the R-9, and your mission is to challenge and destroy the Bydo Empire for all time (again). You fly through seven grueling levels filled with space beasties and extraterrestrial nasties. R-Type nuts will be thrilled with this unbelievably hand level. Luckily you can continue as many times as you wish, and Super R-Type has five levels of difficulty: Novice, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Pro. You must complete the game on Hard to get to Pro.
Better, Stronger, Faster The R-9 confronts the Bydo this time with some new firepower. Holding down the fire button still powers up a mega-blast, but hold it down a little longer and you unleash devastating energy spheres that obliterate almost everything on screen. You can pick up five types of lasers consecutively and two kinds of missiles. You also get the familiar Force module that can detach from the R-9 and be positioned in the front or at the rear of the ship.
ProTip: In Stage Five (Mining Field) keep Force behind the R-9 for protection. The Best of R-Type If this version looks familiar, it's because for the most part it is. The programmers over at Irem have taken what they judge to be the best stages from the arcade hits, R-Type and R-Type II, and put them into the SNES version. For example, Zabtom, the second stage boss, and the Giant Space Ship in Stage 4 both appeared in R-Type. The second stage Ruins, the fifth stage Mining Field with boss Rios, and the seventh stage Baldo Empire are all from R-Type II.

To get through this part of Stage 2, it helps to project your Force option ahead of you. It's easier to judge the size of the terrain by measuring with the option. A Super R-Type Super R-Type's an outstanding piece of work.
It took four programmers, five artists and designers, three music programmers, and an editor nine months to create Super R-Type. The quality shows.
Super R-Type without a doubt has some of the best graphics to date in a video game. The outstanding music combined with the smooth game playing mechanics will keep you coming back for more. There have been complaints that the game slows down in some areas. If this is true, it doesn't show and it certainly doesn't deter from the action. In fact, some players might welcome a little break in this grueling battle. One final word of warning: if you give up easily or if you have a low frustration level, approach Super R-Type with extreme caution.
Mastery does not come easily, but it's worth the effort.
