Jared, Just a thought is 8i supported on Windows 2003? Do you a have a lab box you can install it on? I'd suggest doing that first. Moving to 9i is not an option due to the v7 client. Linux is also not an option, unfortunately.
Niall Litchfield No it isn't. But then 8i isn't supported at all from about 2 weeks time so who really cares. I've seen a number of posts in c.d.o.s with problems on win2k3 and some replies along the lines of well it worked for me so you must be stupid:(. 817 definitely does work on XP workstation which is a similar, but not identical, codebase to win2003 server. I'd probably choose win2k, just because I know it works.and.
there is a large similar installed base out there. My hunch is that win2k3 would.

We're just trying to avoid installing a new server with Win2k, p.s. Actually I'd probably test 9.2 and the 9i client, figuring I have more leverage over the app supplier than Oracle Corp, but that's just me.Quite sure that will not work with this app. If it isn't a v7 client, it won't work. Custom app, developer gone, no current source. Marc Perkowitz For what it's worth, I'm running a very old application under 7.3 on Win XP Pro.
It's small and cost prohibitive to upgrade as long as it still runs. None of the assistants will work. I don't really care about that, so I will build a database and see what happens. If you have the Oracle installer, and watch out for the old(8i) Pentium-java bug, you have a good chance to succeed with 8i on W2K3. I've not tried 8i on W2k3, but I do have an W2K3 Server on VMWare. Martic Zoran Hi, Is it possible to find out the table name in the trigger code at execution time?
Cannot figure out any possible way. Not crazy important but interesting if you want the trigger code across many tables to look the same (stupid, but anyway:) The solution can be some environment variable or the custom SQL) or wahetever, just to not hard code the name of the table/trigger if possible:) Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends what you want to do. Tests might be required, or you may find potential issues via research. We had problems with our PowerBuilder applications connecting to V9 that were based on a V7 client. Its been a while and I don't have the error messages, but they can be found on the Sybase support site if you are using PB. IIRC, we had to upgrade our PB, recompile our applications, and run. Tired of spam? Mail has the best spam protection around - Do you Yahoo!? Carel-Jan Engel Zoran, When you have very similar code, and it is 'copied' into a number of triggers, consider putting the code in a packaged procedure, and call this from your trigger.
Hard-coding (generating) the triggers is getting more straightforward then. And you can pass the tablename in the call, hardcoded (and generated). It gives you one central point for maintenance, in stead of changing lots of triggers (and forgetting one every now and then). Regards, Carel-Jan If you think education is.
The Oracle Management Pack is a solution that enables monitoring of all Oracle components (including RAC, ASM, Data Guard and FRA) and tablespace availability within Microsoft’s System Center Operations Manager. POWERING INNOVATION BY SIMPLIFYING IT Hardware and software, engineered to work together Designed for optimum performance and efficiency, while eliminating IT complexity and cost. From the data center to the cloud, Oracle not only removes the complexity that stifles business innovation, but also engineers in speed, reliability, security, and manageability. Each time attempt to install oracle 8i on windows 7 pro the installer gets to 100% but then windows shows an error that jrew.exe has stopped running. Oracle creates almost half a gig of folders but not the actual database.
On my first try I exited the setup at the point of naming the DB. On subsequent installs I named the SID and the Home directory identical to previous installs (now I'm thinking THAT was a mistake) but I did try one install using fresh directory and DB names but got the same error. Before each install I have deleted the folders Oracle creates but not the registry entries - is this an issue that started with my first aborted install? I've successfully installed 8i on Win XP. I am stuck with 8i because we long ago dropped support and therefore upgrades.I can't call Oracle. Any suggestions out there?
